Breast Imaging Following Breast Conservation Therapy

چکیده
Both surgery (lumpectomy) and radiation therapy used in breast conservation › therapy (BCT) produce changes in the breast These changes must be differentiated from in-breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) › Mammographic changes after BCT may include skin edema, parenchymal • edema, scar formation, fat necrosis, calcifications Mammographic findings of IBTR can be similar • Comparison with previous studies is extremely helpful • First mammogram on treated side is generally obtained 6 months after BCT • Repeating the mammogram at time when contralateral breast is due allows • short-term follow-up and gets both breasts onto same schedule Changes due to BCT generally become less prominent over time (except for • initial phase, when edema may mask appearance of cavity), whereas suspicious findings increase Liberal use of image-guided biopsy is encouraged • Breast Imaging Following Breast Conservation Therapy

Investigate Change Cardiac Perfusion Pattern Following By Hypo-fractionated and Conventional Radiation Therapy Schedule in Patients with Left-Sided Breast Cancer
Introduction: Radiation-induced cardiovascular damage is a potential side effect of radiation therapy in patients with left-sided breast cancer. This prospective study compares the severity and reversibility of perfusion and functional abnormalities before, and six months after, 3D-Conformal radiation therapy treatment in left-side breast cancer patients with conventional and h...
متن کاملYounger Patients, None-early Diagnostic Stage of Breast Cancer, and Low Breast Conservation Surgery, a Message in the Review of 102 Cases from South Iran
Background: Breast cancer is an important cause of cancer death among women all over the world. Even in places with low incidence there are reports of an increase in the number of breast cancer patients. The aim of the present study was to report the demographic aspects of breast cancer among patients referred by surgeons for adjuvant therapy in a private cancer clinic during the past five year...
متن کاملIs Breast Irradiation Routinely Necessary Following Conservation Therapy of Breast Cancer?
INTRODUCTION The gradual acceptance of Fisher’s “Alternative Hypothesis” of the biology of breast cancer, as confirmed by numerous prospective trials of the past twenty years, has served to support the validity of breast conservation therapy, Appropriate questions are being raised as to whether irradiation is always necessary, especially in view of current evidence that local recurrence of brea...
متن کاملEnd results of salvage therapy after failure of breast-conservation surgery.
About 10% to 15% of patients who undergo breast-conservation surgery and radiation therapy will subsequently develop ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR). This paper reviews the biology, clinical management, and outcome of this entity. Risk factors for IBTR include young age, positive microscopic margins, gross multifocality, an extensive intraductal component, and lymphatic vessel invasi...
متن کاملReview of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in breast cancer: should MRI be performed on all women with newly diagnosed, early stage breast cancer?
Randomized controlled trials have shown equivalent survival for women with early stage breast cancer who are treated with breast-conservation therapy (local excision and radiotherapy) or mastectomy. Decades of experience have demonstrated that breast-conservation therapy provides excellent local control based on defined standards of care. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been introduced in ...
